Ku Ha'aheo Live Stream

Popular music series will continue online through June

During this time of social distancing, Waikiki Beach Walk, which is known for hosting live Hawaiian music in Waikiki, wants to continue its mission of perpetuating Hawaiian musical performances and supporting local culture.

To share aloha and mele in a safe environment, Waikiki Beach Walk presents “Ku Ha’aheo” mele series every Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. in a live stream format. The musical stylings feature Waikiki Beach Walk’s cultural director and kumu hula Blaine Kamalani Kia and his ‘ohana from Kia’s home in Kailua via livestream on Waikiki Beach Walk’s Facebook and Instagram pages. Tune in for authentic performances of adult and keiki (children) hula dancers in a unique blending of contemporary and traditional elements, focusing on island traditions, cultural beliefs, classic hapa haole tunes, and historical moments in Hawaii, all told through song and dance.

Ku Ha’aheo sessions with new musical guests will be held on Tuesdays till June 30th. On May 19th Kia and his ‘ohana will be joined by musical guest, four-time Na Hoku Hanohano award winner, Walt Keale. On June 2nd Ku Ha’aheo’s live performance is dedicated to the graduating class of 2020 to celebrate their accomplishments from high school and college.
