It happens for a variety of reasons (sunburn being just one of them), but every now and then people want to take a break from the sun. Even in Hawaii.
But once you learn about all the delights available to you in an afternoon at Waikiki Beach Walk, that may be reason enough.
Here’s one example of a delightful afternoon at Waikiki Beach Walk...
12:01 pm
OK, so we’re starting at one minute after 12 because no one would want to waste a single minute for an afternoon delight. But if you want to get an early jump on your afternoon, that’s OK, too, because Roy’s is now open daily for lunch, and they open at 11:30.
And what a delight this is. First of all, because this is Roy’s, one of the originators of Pacific Rim Cuisine, you’ll be getting the freshest locally grown produce and products melded into a vibrant fusion of East Meets West flavors and cuisine.
For Roy’s in particular, it a sumptuous mix of Asian, French and Hawaii tastes and culinary methodology, resulting in eloquent creations like Roy’s renowned classic Misoyaki Butterfish or his famous Szechuan Pork Ribs.
And now this exhilarating culinary creativity is available in an exciting lunch menu, along with inspired new dishes like a Hapa BBQ Duck Confit Monte Cristo, which Roy blows up and then reconstructs the traditional Monte Cristo sandwich with duck confit embellished with avocado, pickled red onions and roasted garlic chimichurri Or a Sambal Plum Glazed Burger, with bacon jack and cheddar cheese, furikake “Animal” sauce and bundled in a soft, toasted brioche bun.
2 pm
It’s a well-known fact that a long, leisurely, and penetrating look at fine art right after a meal helps with digestion. Actually, we just made that up, but it seems pretty plausible when you think about it: Art can calm the soul, soothe the spirit, and at the very minimum, make you think.
So all things considered, there’s a lot of soul-calming, spirit soothing and deep thinking going on at Park West Fine Art Gallery and Museum. Because Park west Gallery is the world’s largest art dealer, brimming with masterpieces from history’s greatest artists, vibrant new creations from new national artists that are just making a name for themselves, and best of all, local artists who are only known in Hawaii (for now anyway).
And for afternoon visits, you’ll even get the supreme pleasure of watching the creative process as artist-in-residence Rose Cam demonstrates the magic of artistic creation right before your eyes.
The best part? It’s all for sale.
3 pm
Few things are as delightful as saving the world from nuclear disaster. (Please note that we actually don’t know what that is like and we are just making a wild guess that it would be extremely rewarding).
Perhaps not as selfless as saving the world, but nevertheless pretty darn thrilling would be rescuing your group from a runaway train. Or extricating yourself from a wrongful (we hope) imprisonment in a psyche ward.
Frankly, just being the one in your family or group who figures out the final brain-teasing clue to solve the confounding puzzle to unlock and escape from any one of the 6 escape rooms at Breakout Waikiki would qualify as being delightful.
And a great way to spice up an afternoon.
4:30 pm
If you happen to pick a Tuesday for your afternoon delight at Waikiki Beach Walk, you are in luck. Because if it’s Tuesday, that means you’ll be treated to an inspiring display of authentic Hawaii music and hula at Kū Haʻaheo, performed every Tuesday afternoon from 4:30 to 6 pm on the Waikiki Beach Walk plaza lawn.
Kū Haʻaheo is a free, live, Hawaiian music concert headlined by the award-winning musical duo, Kamanawa, which is comprised of Kumu Blaine Kia and Kalei Kahalewai. Accompanying them is Blaine’s family and hālau hula (a company of hula artists) performing both traditional and classic varieties of hula.
This is a very special presentation that is absolutely brimming with aloha. And aloha is definitely delightful.
