Important Cultural Programming Continues in 2025 at Waikiki Beach Walk

HONOLULU (January 10, 2025) Authentic Hawaiian entertainment is at the heart of cultural programming at Waikiki Beach Walk. Aside from locally made products, award-winning restaurants, and unique shopping experiences, their complimentary performances make Waikiki Beach Walk a true slice of Hawai’i life. Join them on the plaza for the monthly Mele Hali’a showcase, festival celebrations, complimentary hula lessons, and more.

LIVE, HAWAIIAN ENTERTAINMENT
Sunday, January 12 – Mele Hali‘a Sunday Showcase, 5 to 6 p.m. 

Known as a “master of the Hawaiian steel guitar,” Greg Sardinha will kick off 2025’s monthly musical showcase, Mele Hali‘a, on Sunday, January 12 from 5 to 6 p.m. Greg Sardinha is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist also proficient on guitar and ukulele. His music genre(s) are both classic and contemporary Hawaiian “local style” music. 

Mele Hali‘a features the finest in Hawaiian musical entertainment by some of Hawai‘i’s most exceptional, award-winning artists on one special Sunday each month (usually the second or third.) All performances are free of charge. 

LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
Saturday, February 1, starting at 5 p.m.
Waikiki Beach Walk will celebrate the Year of the Snake on February 1, beginning with a firecracker show followed by a grand pole jumping performance and Lion Dance traversing through the Waikiki Beach Walk plaza and its retail partners. 

WEEKLY HAWAIIAN MUSIC AND CULTURAL PROGRAMMING 
Waikiki Beach Walk continues to host an amazing array of complimentary music and cultural programming throughout 2025. (All performances are weather permitting.) 
  • Every Tuesday, it’s “Kū Ha‘aheo” at the Plaza Stage, with live Hawaiian entertainment from 4:30 to 6 p.m. 
 
  • Waikiki’s popular “Ka Lei Hula” offers complimentary hula practice each Sunday morning at 9 a.m. The classes are free and open to the public. 
 
  • Mālama Hawaii – Learn Ukulele Basics at The Ukulele Store. Complimentary daily lessons are offered at The Ukulele Store taught by Nā Hoku Hanohano award winner Tyler Gilman. 11:15 a.m. Reservations required, (808) 888-5469. 
 
  • Waikiki Beach Walk Open Market on Mondays from 4 to 8 p.m. The lively experience provides an eco-friendly way to support local businesses, while discovering truly one-of-a-kind souvenirs, handmade art, and snacks to take home for yourself or as a gift to someone special. New this year – shoppers can enjoy live music during the market twice a month from 5 to 6 p.m.

UPCOMING CULTURAL PERFORMANCES IN 2025
Honolulu Festival – March 7 – 9, 2025

This highly anticipated event is a beloved highlight on Hawaii's calendar, renowned for its diverse array of traditional, contemporary, and indigenous cultural showcases. The festival brings together talents from Hawai'i, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Australia, the Philippines, the mainland U.S., Europe, and South America, offering an array of activities, performances, and events, creating a memorable experience for all who attend.

Pan Pacific Festival – June 13 – 15, 2025
The festival brings in performers from Japan, ranging from hula halau to musicians and artists, as well as a diverse group of local groups and artists, to showcase and share music, traditions, and foods and to celebrate diverse cultures. Performances will kick off on Friday, June 12 and continue on Saturday and Sunday, with the finale event, the Pan-Pacific Parade, on Sunday evening. 

Aloha Festivals – September 2025
The month-long Aloha Festivals celebration includes musical tribute and special appearance at Waikiki Beach Walk by the Aloha Festivals Royal Court, who don regalia that was traditionally worn only by aliʻi (ruling chiefs) of the highest rank. Complementing these cultural protocols is a bountiful lineup of hula and musical performances for a special afternoon in the heart of Waikīkī. 

Makalauna Festival – August 2025
Makalauna is the very special annual festival that honors the late, slack-key virtuoso Charles Philip “Gabby” Pahinui, also affectionately known as “Pops.” Members of the Pahinui ʻohana typically perform along with a prestigious gathering of local musical friends, artists, entertainers, apprentices, and devotees of the art form along with admirers of one of Hawaii’s greatest musicians.
